Static Caravans Archives

grannysan asked:

Our current home insurers say that if we site a caravan for letting, our home insurance will be invalid. Have tried many insurers and none will offer house insurance with additional public liability for letting caravan. Business insurers say they don't cover.. Caravan insurers say "only if on licensed park" There MUST be someone out there who has a static caravan sited on land adjacent to their home and who knows how to ensure that their home and their visitors are covered by insurance! Help!

Static Caravans

Static Caravans, a Different Type of Holiday

Caravanning like it or not has it's connotations, TV programmes like Top Gear cast images of old folk cluttering up the motorways with their mobile homes dragging behind their cars, in a recent episode the team even managed to nearly burn a campsite to the ground. Caravanning certainly has a bad image in the UK at the moment but still people in their thousands go on holidays in the UK in their army of caravans.

For those who don't want to be clogging up the highways and byways you can opt for static caravans, static caravans are typically much larger than conventional caravans and as such can accommodate larger family groups. The fact that they're larger means that there is more space and more chance of getting a decent night's sleep!

Static Caravans are normally found on dedicated land in holiday parks, these parks are normally near beaches and other tourist hotspots so you won't have to wander far for something to do or eat, other locations include some countryside farmers may have some caravans on their land for rent if you like the idea of being woken by the cockerel and the scenic views of vast farmland. Whilst you can buy your own holiday home, which may mean you pay rental costs for your space on dedicated land many people rent them much like a hotel room.

In fact, considering the extra space you get and that static caravans cost a lot less to maintain and run you will find that the cost of renting a static caravan considerably undercuts the price of a conventional hotel. Cheap Holidays at caravan sites are easily achieved compared to self-catered hotels, holiday cottages and hotel rooms for families.

You aren't going to be Roughing it on a static caravan holiday either, most static caravans now come with hot and cold running water, electricity mains and other home comforts that make the experience of caravan holidays much more appealing than the image they have had in the past. So for your next holidays consider caravanning as it's an affordable comfortable experience which will leave you pleasantly surprised.

Many holidays like these are cheaper if you book them yourself rather than through a travel agent. This way you'll be able to get your holidays to destinations such as Boston for a fraction of the price you'd normally expect to pay for your holidays booked through a travel agent.

What to Look For In A Caravan

Adrian says:

When considering buying a caravan there are certain things that must be taken account of before you head off for the caravan dealership. The choice of caravans is vast, and confusing if you do not have a clear idea of what you need. There are general factors that must be considered before you even look for your local caravan dealership.

The first consideration should be the pulling power of your car. While the caravan dealership may encourage you to buy the biggest caravan on the lot, your mechanic will not. The weight and size of a caravan are both vital considerations when planning a purchase. Remember; safety is your primary concern as the wellbeing of your family and stress free holidaying is paramount.

A good rule of thumb when making a purchase from a caravan dealership is the weight ratio between the car and trailer. The lower this percentage ratio the better, a golden rule is to have a maximum ratio of 85percent as a power reserve for overtaking and hill climbs is a necessity.

When at the dealership you will see all manner of shapes and sizes of caravan. It must be remembered that the old box shape trailer caravans increase a car's fuel consumption. Modern caravans are more streamlined; this reduces fuel consumption by improving aerodynamics while adding to the stability of the caravan in transit.

The dealership will most likely contain the single and twin axle types of caravan. The question is which is the best? Your dealer should tell you that if you are newcomer to the world of caravanning a single axle caravan will suit your needs. This is because while the double axle caravans are more stable, they make the outfit extremely hard to park. Also two axles can be seen as double the cost, in terms of tyres and upkeep.

A primary concern for many first time buyers is how long a caravan will last. A reputable dealership should sell you a caravan that will last at least ten years; this will only be possible with proper care of course. When visiting the dealership ensure to thoroughly check for damp and moisture as this will spell disaster for any caravan. Also ensure you have the caravan serviced annually, this will prolong its life.

A question often asked at caravan dealerships is what layout is best? This is down to personal preference. Here you must look at what you will need the caravan for and how it should perform certain roles. Things to consider are the location of the dining area, the work surfaces and if the headroom is adequate. Storage space is also a crucial requirement to consider; ensure the catches are well anchored so your items are securely stowed away.

In terms of prices it is hard to nail a value on second hand caravans as the variables are both diverse and vast. Even when buying new it may be possible to broker a deal. A prerequisite when going to the dealership is to take someone with you who has experience and knows what look for, it is also vital to have a clear idea of what your caravanning requirements are.

Ensure the dealer provides a user handbook with the caravan; this is a legal requirement that must be met. The handbook should cover the caravan type, its dimensions and weight, the wheels and tires specification as well as the operating instructions. Any safety instructions should also be covered in the handbook.

A caravan is a large financial investment, make sure it is exactly what you require and take time to make a decision. Do not purely accept the word of the dealership, there are many websites that contain model reviews that are a helpful resource in coming to the right judgment. If you follow this advice you should obtain a caravan that is perfect and will provide many years of stress free holidaying for you and your family.

The Growth Of The Static Caravan Industry

Thomas Pretty says:

In the UK many people love to go on a caravanning holiday in what's called a static caravan. Caravan holidays have always been very popular in Britain and many companies have formed the static caravan market that has evolved over these past few years. Static caravans are used for many different purposes that have made them become a quite large market disparate from the mobile caravan industry. For example; the main purpose that static caravans are sold are for holiday purposes whether it is privately owned just for yourself and friends or on a public caravan site.

This can be luxurious accommodation in some cases as many static caravans are very large and offer a lot of features and equipment with them. Other purposes may include an office for a business if their premises are under maintenance or construction. Also it may provide builders with living accommodation that can be situated just outside the premises or properties that they are building. This is very useful for some building companies that are under a tight schedule to finish an estate of properties for example. The static caravans that can be ordered allow the builders never to leave the site and ensure they have maximum working hours to ensure the buildings are finished on time.

Many specialist companies are competing to make the best static caravans available that can be sold to a wide variety of people in private deals or to big caravan sellers across the UK. There are many different types of static caravans on the market today that allow different experiences to the people that buy and take holidays in them. For example; there are many different styles and sizes that the caravans come in. This means that everyone's tastes are catered for when wanting to buy a static caravan. Colours can vary from different shades of brown and cream to dark green, so that no caravan looks too dull or boring.

The different styles are defined by the different fixtures and fittings inside the caravan as well as the different window designs. There is also an option to have decking built around the caravan to allow you to sit outside your caravan in complete luxury and enjoy the views surrounding the park; or if the weather is nice there is an opportunity to enjoy a barbecue and have a drink. The caravan's size depends on the amount of people that it can accommodate; also the more people the caravan can hold the larger the dimensions need to be. This is because the caravan will need more space to allow the room for more people. Without this the caravan would be too cramped and small.

The static caravan market in the whole is a fairly young but successful with more and more caravan sites appearing across the UK. This will allow the manufacturers of static caravans to produce more abodes due to higher demand although competition will undoubtedly increase. This means that the market can only get bigger meaning that the caravan haulage business will also grow due to the higher demand of static caravans. This will allow static caravans to be transported across the UK as well as caravan sites around other countries in Europe such as France and Spain. With increased popularity the industry will continue to grow and provide many people with years of unbridled holidaying pleasure.

Static Caravans in France

Ungira Pandit :

Static caravans in France are a very popular form of real estate for UK families longing for a great holiday break year after year. Static caravans in France are holiday homes or holiday residences that are transportable, but are usually based at a caravan park or campsite for a number of years. Static caravans are equipped with the specifications of a small apartment including 2 to 3 bedrooms and can fit up to 8 people. Caravan parks lease out plots for caravan owners to place their caravans ideal for a holiday break.

There are a lot of factors to be analyzed before families commits to spending on a static caravan in France. Geographical tendencies of the campsite are something to take in consideration before signing a contract for placing static caravans in France. If a specific caravan park or camp site tends to get flooded, it is advisable to choose a location better suited to you and your caravan's needs. Inquire about the licensing period and the number of years the contract allows for your caravan to be on the park premises. Many parks for caravans in France are not open year round and are closed during the winters. So check if there are any season restrictions and if this will clash with the time of year you would like to use your caravan.

If in the future you wish to sell your caravan and the plot your caravan is on, make sure that is permissible with the park. Check for any other park regulations you would need to adhere to such as bottled gas, insurance, and pet regulations. External décor for caravans in France such as driveways, gardens, pathways and decks also have regulations specified according to each park.

As far as location goes, you need to see if travelling to and from the static caravan park is feasible for your expenses. Consider road maps, bus and train routes needed to get there when calculating the costs of travel. Probe for any associations and rankings the park has been affiliated or credited with, to estimate how established and respectable the static caravan park is. When researching parks for static caravans in France, ask caravan owners at the campsite you are visiting, to get a realistic and frank idea of the location.

Refer to friends and family who own static caravans in France to gain the notion of experiences they've had. Many campsites and parks for static caravans in France offer exhibition trials for your family to experience 2 or 3 days, to gain a better concept of a caravan home holiday.

Prices differ according to new and used static caravans. It would be a safe precaution to hire a professional to assess the worth of the location and condition of the static caravan, especially if interested in a pre owned caravan. Even the details of the contract should be confirmed such as the fee structure of the static caravan and park payments, how fees will be billed and should be paid. Find out the subletting or renting policies for static caravans within the park. Some parks for static caravans in France allow private subletting or renting while others do not allow these options. This will be the source of steady income when your family is not using the caravan, so read all the fine print carefully. Do not miss any small print and make yourself acquainted with all terms and conditions to know exactly where you stand on specific issues and situations. Keep a copy of the contract and regulations in your records for future reference.

Static caravans in France are excellent financial investment for families, providing cost effective holidays every time they feel the need. There is a lot of information available for static caravans in France and it can be confusing where and how to start looking. Once you equip yourself with the right knowledge and essential basics for static caravan purchasing, you will find the ideal static caravan to fit your family's needs.

creole asked:

I have the responsibility of fixing up a very old caravan which has taken a bit of a battering by the weather (Atlantic winds...).

One of the side panels has blown back and needs re-attaching, but the wood underneath (the only thing between the metal panel and the inside of the caravan) is completely rotten, so the panel can't just be nailed down.

Any tips? If you'd like any more detail ask away!

Thanks.
