Camping Lantern

Camping is a great adventure enjoyed by millions of people and the sheer variety of tents and camping equipment now available is truly staggering. One camping accessory you do not want to be without is a camping lantern. Just because it happens to be the summer does not mean you can afford to be without this vital piece of gear. You don't want to be left in the dark when camping.

Of course there are many types of camping light you could take with you, but the camping lantern continues to be a popular favourite. It doesn't matter whether you need a light in case of a blackouts or emergencies or to use on camping trip they are extremely useful.

Camping Lanterns have been around for decades and during that time have gone through numerous changes. In the beginning, only the candle or kerosene lanterns were commonplace.

Despite the fact that these types are still in use nowadays, there are many colourful styles available. In actual fact, one of the most common kinds of camping lanterns are ones that are powered by a battery, and as our technological know how improves it looks as though solar lanterns will become a firm favourite..

Before you go ahead and purchase one you should identify the circumstances under which it will be used. The first consideration is one of size, after all if you're backpacking you want to keep the size and weight to a minimum, whereas if you have a family tent and a car this probably wouldn't cause a problem.

In the event that you settle on a gas lantern, select one that uses the same type of gas as your camping stove. When it comes to the type of fuel to use you have a choice between butane, propane, kerosene and multi fuel. You need to bear in mind that gas lanterns can be a little on the noisy side, which you don't get with a battery or candle lantern

Gas lanterns are very often chosen because the give the brightest and intensive light. The positive points are that the gas lantern will last longer, the light is easily adjustable and will work under virtually all conditions.

There a few safety considerations to take into account as both candle and the fuel/gas lanterns are hot and have a flame so should be treated cautiously, obviously you do not have this concern with battery lanterns.

Quality battery lanterns do give a good light, they are convenient, safe and you can use rechargeable batteries, ok if you have method of recharging. Here again the amount of light is adjustable. You should ensure you always have spare batteries and bulbs. Battery lanterns will not last as long as gas lantern but this shoudn't cause a problem if you're only away for a few days.

Whichever camping lantern you finally decide on, remember to maintain it properly as incorrect methods may cause unnecessary damage.
